I know why I follow people. There are several reasons - some have become “friends” because we have stuck together for several years; I may like the pictures they post, or the music, or they make me laugh, or I admire them…a myriad of reasons.
I don’t follow them to boost my ego or in the hope that they will follow me and boost my numbers or because I feel flattered that so-and-so follows me. I have to have a genuine interest - a genuine non-selfish reason. I don’t mind if they don’t follow me back. That’s not the reason I follow them - if they do then it’s nice and I appreciate it.
People who have known me for any length of time know that I have periodic changes of blog. It’s the only way I can really move on from a situation that for some reason has become intolerable to me.
What has been interesting in this change (and the others) is the number of followers who haven’t followed me to my new blog. Friends have and so have some other obviously nice people and some of them were unexpected followers - but thank you all of you. But the vast majority of my followers here obviously couldn’t give a shit about me or have any interest at all in anything I post. So, firstly why did you ever follow me and secondly why did you keep following me here and let me clutter up your dashboard?
But on the positive side - I have learned a valuable lesson about tumblr and about people in general.
